CIS – Construction Industry Scheme

Common questions

To register for Numbermill CIS, we need you to complete some personal information.  However, before we begin we would like to make sure you understand how it works.

Your agency will have advised you of a rate of pay for this role, this is called an assignment rate.

Recent legislation requires agencies and clients to carefully assess whether a role falls under the end hirer’s supervision, direction, or control. If it does, the worker must be paid via PAYE instead of through CIS (Construction Industry Scheme). This means self-employed workers may sometimes switch between CIS and PAYE depending on the job.

If you are not already registered for the CIS scheme and do not have a CIS UTR Number, you can call HMRC on 0300 200 3210 or visit www.gov.uk/register-for-self-assessment.

Complete your details on our online form, supply us with your CIS UTR Number and answer a few questions to see if you can be paid via this method.

If you have read all the above, then please continue to register online below. We do require your right to work documentation as well so please attach a copy of either your passport or a copy of your birth certificate and proof of national insurance for UK Citizens or a copy of your passport and share code for Non-UK Citizens.  We will then send you out a contract for services, which we will need back before your first payment.

If you work with multiple agencies, it can be beneficial to try and use one Umbrella company for all placements. Please contact us to arrange this for your next role.
